It's no understatement when I say that I am ecstatic about getting to design the interior of our new house!
When we moved into our previous unfurnished house, we already had a jumbled collection of furniture and general 'stuff' that had been collected over the years, and inherited from family and friends. We didn't have the money or justification to throw it all out and start fresh, and to be honest the house really didn't deserve it. Let's just say, bad landlords, and their crappy DIY jobs...
Well, we move to Austria in April and we will be renting once again. However this time, the house we're moving into has just been completely renovated, top to bottom! And we will be the first tenants in - yippee! So, after designing 5 trillion houses on the Sims in many years growing up, and a good few years after that too, I am so so so excited to finally get to design my own real house for the first time! No more inherited sofas from Grandma! (Sorry Grandma)
Below is one of the few photos I took when we went to view the property.
I can't deny that I'm totally in love with the minimal, Scandi look. The apartment has some beautiful real oak flooring, and lots of wood in the kitchen (it's the Tyrolean countryside after all), so we are going to keep the rest of it pretty clean and monochrome.
Ricardo and I both like minimal, but sometimes I think we have different definitions of minmal decor. I still like cosy details, whereas he prefers squeaky clean and clinical, so we may have to meet halfway. Maybe. I've definitely been inspired by some fo my favourite Instagrammers. Here's a few posts to give you the picture:
To try and get a handle on the furniture I really want to have, I created a (you gessed it!) Sims version of our house! Below is the living room, but pleeease remember that the scale isn't exact, the furniture is very limited, the TV will be smaller, and of course the art will be Moose+Marble!
Despite the limitations, it looks pretty good, right? Now you have an idea of the look, below are some of the product picks that we are considering, and where to find them.
Our Furniture & Decor Picks
I am an organisation freak and I already have a spreadsheet with prices, details, and even model numbers. Yup, I'm one of those werid people... So here are some of the products that have made the shortlist so far, but the final decision will depend on availability, delivery times (and prices), and whether we find anything we like better!
Vento 3 Seater Chaise End Sofa
I've always wanted a corner sofa, and this chaise end should be perfect as we don't have a lot of room. The style of this one is just perfect too. I was originally considering the Söderhamn design from Ikea, but a number of bad reviews really put me off.
This Vento sofa from MADE comes in various formats, and also a darker grey more similar to the one in my sims-ulation. I prefer this 'Manhattan Grey' however, because we have one white dog and one black dog, and this tone of grey seems to look cleaner for longer between vacuuming!
Currently, this exact combination is available on the UK site, but not Austria's, so we may have to have a rethink if they don't restock by April!
Manitoba Marble Coffee Table
Finding one of these was harder than I thought! I've seen a few faux marble tops but again the reviews were a bit rubbish. This will probably be the most expensive coffee table I'll ever buy, but totally worth it no?
Arianne Graphite Coffee Table
Another option I found is this black granite top coffee table from Lombok. I really love both, but I don't think Lombok deliver to Austria. For smaller things, my parents can ship stuff over to us, but this would be a bit too expensive to mail I think!
Supernova Ceiling Lamp
I only recently discovered Scandinavian Design Centre, and they have so many amazing products! It was hard work finding this style of lamp that was A) afforfable, B) not too big for our small space and C) delivers to Austria. They actually deliver to most of the world which is bloomin' fantastic!
Matte Black Sputnik Chandelier
This was actually the first option I found that didn't look overbearing for the size of our room. I love that it hangs down unlike the Supernova light, but as this one is more expensive and possibly more impractical due to our low ceilings, I think this one might come in 2nd place.
BESTÅ TV Bench
Ideally I would like a TV unit that is longer than this, but it seems to be the only one I can find at this price point. I may consider putting two together.
SONY 4K Ultra HD HDR Android TV 49"
Our current TV is on it's last legs so I'm very excited to buy this! A highlight for us is that it has Android built in so we can continue to use the apps we like (we currently hook up the PC to the TV). This was a deciding factor over a Samsung model we liked. Both had a fantastic picture, but I also prefer the TV stand on this SONY.
ICELAND Art Print
I'm still undecided whether to keep the art monochrome, or introduce a pop of colour. Either way, this Iceland print is one of my favourites.
Isolated Art Print
I've been considering a gallery wall in the living room. This print would be perfect as you can mix and match it with pretty much anything. I might put it in the bedroom instead, we'll see.
Rug In Pure Grey
What I really want is a white rug. What Ricardo said I'm not allowed, is a white rug. With the two pooches it would never stay white! I know he's right but I still want one. This was the alternative that I found, I just hope it will be as beautiful as the white looked in the sims-ulation. Not sure if it will blend in too much with the sofa... Let me know in the comments what you think.
Seagrass Storage Basket
As seen in my sims-ulation, I want one of these as a planter holder for a large plant. Because the coffee table will also have space underneath I may get another one to store blankets and throws.
I think these candle holders look perfect wth the style of light fixture showen above. Plus, I'm all about burning candles for that cosy, hygge feeling.
Porter throw in grey
I love having blankets and throws handy near the sofa. I've always loved these subtle herringbone style ones, but the best thing about this one is that it's half the price I've seen in most places. It's 100% acrylic, which is important for me. I try to avoid knowingly buying wool because the industry is so horrific. And there are beautiful alternatives like this one!
Well that's all for now. It's a pretty small space and we don't like clutter so there aren't many more things that will probably be in the room. Don't forget to share and pin if you liked this post! Keep an eye out for more posts for other rooms in our new apartment!
